1870 Census:James is living with his widowed mother, Ann(e), in 2nd ward, City of Morris, Grundy County, Illinois.Says he is 18 and working in a flour mill.In the "head of the household" space is John Lord or Ford who has a wife, Mary, and a son, John. However, the property value space, $1700, is in Ann's information area.John may be placed first simply because he is a man. These people could be family or they could be boarders.Curious...

1922, the Obituary of James E. McEvoy:Morris Daily Herald, Wed, May 31.
J. E. McEvoy, father of Mrs. T. J. Slattery of near Kinsman, died this morning in Kansas City, Mo., and the body will be brought east for funeral services and burial. The rites will be held in Seneca, but the time has not been set pending the arrival of the body.
Mr. McEvoy was 70 years old and was born in Morris [He was born in Ohio.], October 4, 1852. He was reared here and acquired the trade of moulder in the Coleman Hardware Co. He was a very popular young man and one of the principals in the Morris band for years. He left here for Chicago, and, after a number of years located in Seneca where he conducted a saloon and hotel for many years. He left that village for Wichita, Kan., and in later life went to Kansas City, Mo., where his death occurred following a stroke of paralysis a few months ago.
Besides his wife he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Thomas Slattery, near Kinsman, Mrs. Willard Smith of Wichita, and Minnie at home. Also a stepson, James Murphy of Texas and his own son, Stephen McEvoy of Chicago.
At the grave stones & records,Mt. Calvary Cemetery:
John;1864--------1866 (No idea at all who this child is; if it is James E.'s brother, I am surprised that he is buried in Lasalle County, as they lived in Grundy County at that time.Maybe this was the nearest Catholic Cemetary; but if so, I would think that James' parents, John and Ann, would be there as well.

This is quite a puzzle:According to the historical society, James McEvoy & Julia Wood had a daughter Anne baptised March 29, 1886 (born 26 Apr 1886--obviously dates switched or the year of birth is incorrect). Sponsor was Anne McKeon. This was done in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Minooka, IL.However, if Stephen was born in May of 1886, some or all of these dates have to be wrong. The grave dates do work, however.
I learned from the Historical Society that James E. McEvoy owned a lot in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, in Grundy County, but there are no stones on it.
