One "Darby McCarty" came to Maryland in 1667.He was perhaps an ancestor of the Darby McCarty with the wife Hannah who was in Frederick Cty, VA i 1754 & 1758.A bible is preserved which starts with this Darby McCarty and comes down five generations.(No I have no idea what bible, where or preserved by whom)
"The McCarthys in Early American History" by Michael J. O'BrienDodd, Mead & Co., 1921, page 87; mentions Darby McCarty as being in the land records of Frederick County, VA and as appearing on a 1758 poll list there as voting for Col. George Washington for Burgess, but does not connect him with earlier ancestors, nor does it carry his line down.
The remarkable family record beginning with the eleven children of Darby and Hannah McCarty and continuing to his Hamblen great great granchildren, appears in a Bible, printed at Edinburg by Alexander Kincaid, His Majesty's printer, MDCCLXII.This Bible went to Texas in the 1860's and was returned to Hawkins County, TN around 1900.It is owned by Mrs. Sharlie (Cope, Hill) Rogersville, Rte w, a descendant of William McCarty through the Gambles and Webbs.
