Notes for James Rusk:
From the 1st Canada Census James Rusk of Northern Ireland, served with the IMPERIAL ARMY at Gibralter.It was there he met and married Mary Ann Magill the daughter of an Irish soldier, and a Spanish wife. Together they emigrated to Canada in about 1843, settling in Cavan Township, Durham County, Ontario.
Three of James Rusk's sons; Richard, Charles and Walter, moved to the Gainsborough area of Saskatchewan from Ontario in 1892. The first farm the family lived on was the SW 1/4 36-2-30-W1. They rented the land from Dr. King.
On October 17, 1898 Richard Rusk filed for homestead on the SW 1/4 6-3-29-W1 and on the same date George M. Rusk filed for homestead on the NW 1/4 6-3-29-W1. Richard received his patent on November 29, 1910 and George received his patent on December 17, 1903.The NE 1/4 6-3-29 was homesteaded by Norman Elmer Rusk, a nephew, and the SE 1/4 of the same section by Carl August Hebner.
