Herrmann Ollendorff (b. 22 Aug 1853, d. date unknown)

[Jamie..FBK.GED]
Family legend passed down by the grand children of Herrmann, reckoned that he was a vet., in America, but after extensive research, there has not been any evidence found to confirm this. What has been confirmed is his birth date, place, and marriage to Margaret Vine. On the marriage certificate of his daughter Florence, his occupation is given as "clerk". After his marriage to Margaret in 1880, there is no trace of them on the 1881 Scottish census. However, Margaret and daughter Florence turn up on the 1891 census of Scotland without Herrmann.
Florence's age is given as eight years, and place of birth CANADA [B.S.] This seems to suggest that Herrmann and his bride emigrated to Canada between their date of marriage and the census of 1881. For reasons so far unknown, it would appear that Margaret returned to Scotland with her daughter some time between her birth c.1883, and before the birth of Margaret's second child by William Tate inJanuary 1891.

I eventually found Herman (Henry) on the 1881 census of Canada with Margaret, in Toronto. After more searching, they were found to be in Peterborough, Ontario, in 1882, when their daughter (my grandmother) Florence was born.
