Notes for GLADYS IRENE REARICK: FIRE GUTS RURAL VALLEY RESIDENCE The cry of a concerned neighbor to "hurry, hurry, hurry," made via telephone to the emergency operating center yesterday sent three fire companies scrambling to a fire in the Nu Mine area at 2:25 p.m. Rural Valley fire company with assistance from the Dayton and Plumville fire crews fought the blazes of a house fire for 90 minutes before bringing the flames under control. The house, reportedly owned by Mrs. Gladys North, was completely gutted by the fire. Assistant fire chief Dwight McKain, in charge at the fire scene, said that the actual cause of the incident has not been determined and no monetary damage has yet been estimated. With assurance that the fire was completely out, men and equipment returned to thier respective stations at 4:51 p.m. Earlier in the day, at 11:15 a.m., the same crews from the Rural Valley station had responded to a transformer fire.West Penn Power was reportedly summoned to the scene along Route 85, half way between Kittanning and Rural Valley.(a photo of the burning/smoking house accompanied the article) Obit. The daughter of Norman Rearick and Ruth Jewell, she was born July 18, 1922, in Indiana. She was a member of St. Paul's Congregational Church and St. Paul's Loyal Workers.She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking, her grandchildren and crossword puzzles. Surviving are four sons:Charles E. North, Ford Cliff; Robert Lee North, Vandergrift; Ross A. North, Indiana; three daughters:Nancy I. North, LaRue Ann North and Thyra E.
