|I am researching the Leven C. & Elizabeth (Jenkins) Swann family which came from Amherst Co. Va. to Kanawha County in 1805, then on to Cabell County in 1812.|
I have been researching the family for over 20 years. It can be complicated, because some have incorrectly linked his children to other families. I have spent years going to the Cabell Co. Courthouse, as well as many other adjoining courthouses, and libraries trying to get it right. I hope the information I have gathered will be useful to other people, as it has been for me.
I was invited to be a member of the Swann Cemetery Committee in May 2005. We handle the care & upkeep of the Leven C. Swann Cemetery at Ousley's Gap, near Barboursville. During the Summer of 2005 we were able to raise enough money & volunteer help to put new chain link fence around the entire cemetery. We also cut a lot of brush. And we're not through yet. We have plans for a new gate and also moving the front fence up even with the rest of the line. I was able to find some special glue to repair the stones that had been broken & vandalized through the years. We also fixed some of the rock markers that were sinking. It's worth the drive to come see it. I have done some research and found many individuals who are buried int the Swann Cemetery in the rock-marked & unmarked graves.
My direct line follows Leven's son Josiah Swann. His oldest
son, Calvary M. Swann was my great-great grandfather. Click on the Report below to view it all. Please feel free to e-mail me with queries.
