|The Sylstra-McLean Home page researches two families in the United States of Dutch and Scotch-Irish descent. The Sylstra line has been traced through ancestors back to Jacob Klazes Zijlstra (1763 - Friesland Holland), and Aenes Jouckes, 1535 - Friesland), and Pyter Gerbens (1775 - Friesland) whose descendants emigrated to New Jersey; and Joseph Potts, 1844(New Jersey). The McLean line has been traced to John Mackelhany emigrating from Ireland to Sandwich,Barnstable Co., MA in early 1700's and his wife's (Sarah Handy)family back to Robert Handy, an early emigre to Sandwich, MA (1630); their son, Ichabod McLane, of Falmouth, MA, Charles McLain, Franklin County, Maine, to James McLean in MA. Through grandmother Mary Davis McLean, we trace back to Christian Penn and Francis Eaton, Mayflower passenger, John Averill,1600's, Manchester,VT.; William Ward, 1603, Sudbury, MA; Henry Fitzpen, 1500's-Devon, Eng.; David Fitzpen (Phippen), emigrated to Hingham, MA in 1635, and Josiah Davis, Samuel Gilson and Averills and Phippens of Westminster, VT.On mother's side, back to Samuel Harris of Boothbay,ME, originally of Exeter, NH (1775) , and his family, Leslie, Lundy, Pierce, Edmund Enright of Ireland and Machias, ME and Archie McKinley, emigrating fromIreland about 1850 to Maine. We are always looking for new links to the family and have discovered long-lost cousins on the Internet. It can be done!|
Related names are Davis, Keyes, Batchelder, Handy, Coombs,Harris, Enright on the McLain/McLean side and Potts, Larkin, Hettema, Hempenius, Sickes on the Sylstra (originally Zijlstra - 1873 emigration) side.
