|Daniel Driscoll was born in County Cork - birth date approximately 1810. He married Mary Ryan who was born 19 June 1810 in Ireland. I don't know for sure if they were married in Ireland or met in the US. Daniel's place of birth was pulled from an 1899 obit of his son, Cornelius. |
Daniel was an Engraver by trade. By following the family in the Federal Census records I know that Daniel showed up in Lockport NY in 1833. He and Mary Ryan were married and had a son named Timothy Driscoll who was born Lockport NY 1833.
Daniel and family moved to Galena Illinois in 1836, acquired land and had 7 more children while living in Illinois: Cornelius born 1838, Bridget born 1840, Margaret born 1842, Mary born 1844, Ellen born 1847, and twins Elizabeth and Philips born 1849.
The 1900 census states that Mary Ryan Driscoll had given birth to 11 children but only 6 were still alive. I have accounted for 8 of them.
Daniel died Dec 14 1853. The newspaper reports states that he fell down the forward companionway of the steamship Illinois on his way to California.
Many of Daniel and Mary’s children listed their occupations as musician. I have traced this from the earliest mention in 1850 to the death of Daniels grandson, Solomon Driscoll, who died in Coos Bay Oregon 11 November 1962.
There are still many brick walls I can’t seem to get over and missing people that I want to find. Come join the search !
