****CONCEPTION BAY NORTH**** Our ancestors must have been some of the heartiest driven families to survive the test of time in the founding of a new land. They hoped that their hard work would bring them a promise that life would be better then the one they once had. I often wonder how they were going to endure what life was going to put them through. As I searched our families past, I realized that theyhad the strength and courage it would take to succeed. They came from all walks of life, most of them wereworking long hard days doing what they needed to survive. If we look at one of our ancestors , SOLOMON THISTLE,he was born in Guernsey in the Channel Islands. At age ten he was working in a Rope Walk making ropes for sailing ships, his hours were long, about fifty to sixty hours a week. It was hard work for a young boy, but thats how it was back then. Ships would sail away with SOLOMON'S ropes and he would dream of a place that had the promise of a better life. So, with a young boy's courage and spirit of adventure, SOLOMON THISTLE at age 12 stowed away on board a ship bound for Newfoundland with his dreams and a new life. This was a bold move for a young boy. To be found aboard a sailing ship could have been the end for SOLOMON. In those days men at sea were superstious,if things aboard a ship were going bad the crew or the captain would search for a stow away. It was considered bad luck to have one on board. If one was found he would often be thrown overboard or set adrift to the mercy of the sea. SOLOMON would survive his journey and the ships would return with his voice of a new home where the land was fresh and open, and the bays and coves were teaming with fish. Our ancestors would follow Solomon's foot steps and they became Newfoundlanders. As I searched our family tree another story was to be uncovered. One that would tug at my heart. It was the story of JAMES NOSEWORTHY and SARAH HARRIS . Sarah bore ten children and five of them would die in the first year of their lives. It was not uncommon for families back then to lose so many young ones. As a parent I just couldn't imagine the loss they must have felt. But their faith had carried them through and their roots would spread like that of a tree and their children would carry the seeds of their family on. Then there is story of NAOMI HUDSON, she would live to be almost 108 . I can only imagine the wealth of family history she had. So lets open the book on our family and look back in time and see what a great group of ancestors they truly were. {If your family surname is Thistle and you are not conected to this tree, there are related files at the bottom of this site to help you in your search and is dedicated to the surname Thistle} IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON THISTLE FAMILIES YOU CAN CONTACT ME AT [email protected] and I will try to help you with your QUESTIONS.
