| I am researching the Taylor, Cabbagestalk, Manigault (incl. Manigo and Manago) and Nickens families.Interested in all branches and descendants.|
Taylor:goes back to my Gr-Grandfather, Prince Taylor,Sr. (1828-1928).From sumter, SC; birthplace unknown. Most likely seems the African Continent. His grandmother was Caroline Taylor, and he had a brother by the name of Robert.1 wife: Lydia & 2 wife: Rachel Manigo (Manigault) Fathered (26) children: some of the names were: Elizabeth, Charlotte, Tamar, Margaret, Lydia, Eilla, Emmalyon, Sue Virginia, Long Eckbridge, Cyrus, Samuel, Prince Jr., Richard, Scrivin, Crimline, John, James, Manning, Maggie and Able.
Cabbagestalk: goes back to my Gr-Gr-Gr-Gr (4) Grandmother, Mary Lawson.First found on the Colclough Plantation in sumter, SC.Mother of all of the present day Cabbagestalk Family. All Cabbagestalks are related.
Manigault: goes back to my Gr-Gr (2) grandparents: James and Grace Manigault. The father of the present day Manigault family was Peter Manigault, can be found on the 1870 Charleston, SC census. The children of James and Grace were: Caroline, Lincoln, Elsie, Wesley, James Jr. and Rachal.
Nickens:goes back to Robert Lee Nickens, who came to America in 1669 from the port of Liverpool in Lancanshire, England as a "free person of color".Travelled via Barbados and ending in Jamestown Virginia. It is fair to say, that he is the father of the present day Nickens families, and that the Nickens family originated from Virginia. My direct and Lateral ancestor was: Lee Nickens, b.1799 in Virginia. It is believed that Amos Nickens was his father. He was believed to have either been an endentured servant or forced into slavery after having been born free.He was found living on the Colclough Plantation in the year 1858, along with his wife, Nanny and his children: Spencer, Benjamin, Dennis, George, Henrietta, Rosa, Louise, there were two others whose names were unreadable. Some of the repititious names were: Dennis, Harry, Walter, Spencer and John.
