Mitchell, commercial traveler, was born in Jackson County 23 December 1841, and enlisted in the late war July 1861 in Company D, Thirty-sixth Ohio Infantry, as a private for three years, and was appointed First Sergeant, and the following winter was promoted to Company A. He remained with the same regiment during the war. The next summer he was promoted to First Lieutenant of Company H, and in 1863 became Captain of Company C, which he commanded during the war. He participated in the battles of Second Bull Run, South Mountain, MD, Antietam, Tullahoma, Chickamauga, Mission Ridge, Cloyd Mountain, Lynchburg raid, Lexington and many others. He participated in all the engagements in the Shenandoah Valley. He was discharged at Columbus, Ohio, 01 August 1865. After the war he engaged in his present business and has traveled for the firm of Minor and Dixon, wholesale grocers of Cincinnati, for sixteen years. He was married 01 April 1868 to Isabelle, daughter of Ralph and Sabra Loft, of Steubenville, Ohio. They have a family of four children: George C., Ada T., Charles R. and John D.,Jr. His wife is a member of the Methodist church. He is a member of Trowel Lodge, No. 132, A.F.&A.M., of Jackson, Ohio. His grandfather, David Mitchell, was a native of Kentucky, and settled in Jackson County prior to 1812. He was a soldier in the War of 1812 and was at one time Probate Judge of Jackson County, and represented the county two terms in the State Legislature. He was a Whig in politics and died in Jackson County. David H. Mitchell, father of our subject, was born in Jackson County 16 January 1816, and for thirty years was a prominent physician of Jackson, where he died in November 1868. He was married in 1838 to Typhenia Hewitt, who was born in Athens County, and was one of the Trustees of the Ohio University for a number of years. Joseph Hewitt, the father of Mrs. Mitchell and son of Moses Hewitt, was born and reared in Athens County and at one time was Sheriff of the county. He died in the State of Iowa. Genealogy and Local History in Union County, Ohio History of Jerome Township (1913) - Page 131 Colonel Wilcox resigned April 29th, 1863, and Lieutenant Colonel John G. Mitchell was promoted to Colonel and commanded the brigade in some of the hardest battles in which the regiment participated. He was promoted to Brigadier-General January 12th, 1865. PG 785, 786 David Morrison Was born September 16, 1807 in Pennsylvania. He was a Nephew of John Loughry. He went from Pennsylvania Direct to Rockville to Engage in business under Mr. Loughry. He remained with John Loughry about 1831 t0 1841 as superuntendent of the business of Quarrying and shipping Stone. From 1841 to 1847, he was engaged in boating on the Ohio River. He Owned a towboat and a number of barges and engaged in transporting heavy goods on the Ohio river. From 1851 to 1859, he resided in Covington Kentucky, He bought the Judge Mitchell Farm, Lately Owned by his sons. Albert R. and James H. Morrison, removed there in 1859, and Resided there until his death, though he never was at any time a farmer, but was always engaged on the river. He was married to Martha Mitchell, the daughter of Associate Jubge David Mitchell on the 28th day of November 1835, by Rev. Eleazor Brainard, and they went to houskeeping in Rockville. He was a large man, weighing over two hundred and fifty pounds and was always active and energetic. He died suddenly March 23, 1863, from the effects of an operation on his eyes. His Wife Survived him until March 18, 1886. They both rest in the Mitchell Cemetery on the overlooking the former home of Judge David Mitchell her father. they had the following: Mary, wife of Loyal Wilcox, residing in kansas, who has large family and a son and daughter married; Armour Morrison, resides in Chicago and is engaged in the life insurance business; Albert R.
