Robert Bunten (1710-1761) was a Scottish immigrant who was one of the founders of Allenstown. In 1747 Robert and his 10-year-old son Andrew, & James Carr were plowing a field in Allenstown when they were attacked by Indians. Carr was killed, Robert and Andrew taken captive to Canada.Remarkably, months later they returned home.(Mentioned in the history of Bow).
His youngest son, John (1756-1833, would inherit land in Dunbarton where further generations lived.
Six generations later, his descendant, Alice Bunten Hadley wrote the History of Dunbarton: “Where the Winds Blow Free.”
