Obituary for GEORGE WARD:
RAWLINGS — George Ward, 57, of Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of Rawlings, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at his residence.
Born on Aug. 4, 1946, at Connellsville, Pa., he was a son of Mary (Staggs) Ward Flanagan of Manchester, formerly of Rawlings and the late George Ward. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Donald L. Flanagan Sr.; and two sisters, Shirley Ward and Nancy Smith.
Mr. Ward was a cabinet maker by trade and enjoyed working as a carpenter. A Methodist by faith, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a life member of Nancy Hanks Post 3518, V.F.W., Keyser. He was best known for his portrayal of Santa Claus for many years.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, is one brother, William Ward and wife Phyllis of Rawlings; two sisters, Patricia Adams and husband George of Lynchburg, Va., and Julia Hott and husband Bobby of Manchester; several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Monday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. with Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.
Interment will be in the Dawson Cemetery, Dawson.
