Notes for Joseph Ward:
Joseph Ward and two sons left New Jersey on horseback to survey the Northwest Territory, and to visit another son who had come to the Northwest earlier. After they returned to New Jersey, the Ward clan packed up their belongings and left their homes in Chatham, NJ and headed west in ox-drawn carts. Joseph served as a private in the Revolutionary War with the New Jersey troops in Captain Elijah Squire's company, at the same time three of his sons were serving...Nehemiah, Amos and Israel.

Burial: Unknown, Madisonville, Ohio at the north end of Ward Street, at the foot of the hill. The original cemetery was buldozed a few years ago and most of the bodies were moved to Laurel Cemetery..
