Joseph Ward (son of Elemuel (or Lemuel) Ward and Hannah Camfield) was born August 15, 1734 in Newark, Essex Co., New Jersey, and died May 18, 1824 in Madisonville,Columbia Township, Hamilton Co., Ohio.He married Phoebe Parkhurst on Abt. 1755 in Essex, New Jersey, daughter of Benjamin Parkhurst and Mary. Notes for Joseph Ward: Joseph Ward and two sons left New Jersey on horseback to survey the Northwest Territory, and to visit another son who had come to the Northwest earlier. After they returned to New Jersey, the Ward clan packed up their belongings and left their homes in Chatham, NJ and headed west in ox-drawn carts.
