He married Sarah Adeline Carter in 1860 and they raised a family of ten children.

Fannie was the wife of Andrew Ferguson Dobbie and the daughter of Burrell Allen Neighbours and Susan Green Roberts. She was born Sep 14, 1856 in Lampasus Co., Texas prior to the families departure by covered wagon for California in 1868. She died Jul 10, 1923 in Long Beach, Los Angeles Co., California.

Founder of Keithville, Caddo Par, Louisiana. Perry married Narcissa Miller on Feb 23, 1871, and to this union were born five children; William Henry, Daniel Wesley, Perry Polk Jr., Mary Slaughter and Beulah. Beulah was born Sept 1, 1885 and married Jeb Stewart Darby, son of John Howell and Francis Darby.Obituary from the Shreveport Times, Feb 7, 1935, pg 1.

David Patrick Smart, the son of John Thomas Smart and Virginia L. Smart, was born Nov 27, 1838 in Missouri. He married Georginia Dobbie in Downey, Los Nietos Twp, California in 1875. Early records indicate that David was a teacher in the local school district and later became involved in local administrative matters of the area and in 1896 became a partner in one of the local saloons. He died in Downey, Sep 16, 1905.

Second of eleven children of George Frederick & Isabella Dobbie Leidig. Agnes died from eating some spoiled frozen peaches. She was originally buried near Lamons cabin & her remains were removed to Yosemite Pioneer Cemetery possibly in the early 1900's
- Georginia Dobbie (38 KB)
Georginia, the daughter of Donald Dobbie and Agnes Armour, was born Nov 20, 1858 in Bellville, Illinois. She was only three years old when she came to California with her parents settling in Mariposa County. Georginia arrived in Downey, California around 1874 where she met her husband and resided until her death, Jan 11, 1931.

Agnes Armour, the wife of Donald Dobbie, died "At Princeton, Maripose county, Dec 6th, Mrs. Agnes Dobbie in the 45th year of her age." (The Daily Bee, Sacramento, Fri, Dec 12, 1862) The cause of her death has not been determined but is probably related to the trip with her children across the Isthums of Panama on her way to join her husband in Mariposa county.

A Second Chance.....George Andreas Leidig (13 July 1810-9 Oct 1877) left Rot am See, Wuerttemberg (Germany) during 1855, another year of great famine. He left behind a wife and two nearly grown-up children, Magdalena Catharina Leidig and Johann Georg Jacob Christian Leidig (who emigrated to London, England during the same year). Josephine Meyers Floto (about 1831, Wuerttemberg, Germany-15 Sep 1899) was widowed when her first husband, Henry Floto was killed in a mining accident on 9 May 1863, Josephine married George A. Leidig on 16 June 1864 and set up home with him and her two children, Eliza Floto and Frank H Floto. The family grew by two more children, namely Lousia A. Josephine Meyers was born circa 1831 in Wuerttemberg, Germany and found her way to the Mariposa area in California where she first married Henry Floto sometime before 1859. On May 9, 1863, Mr. Floto was involved in a mine accident in Princeton, California, which resulted in his untimely death at age 30. He was assisting in propping up under the tunnel, when some of the timbers gave way, causing a mass of earth and rock to bury Mr. Floto. Timely efforts to extricate him were unsuccessful. Born in Belmont Co, Ohio, April 2, 1870. Son of Benjamin M. and Eleanore (Davies) Loper. Married Agnes Dobbie, daughter of Andrew F. and Fannie (Neighbours) Dobbie, on June 22, 1898 in Phoenix, Arizona. Three children were born from this marriage before Agnes died Jul 14, 1928. John remarried and continued his career in the Phoenix public school system before his death, Sep 25, 1955.
