Michael Crotty9 was born Abt. 1790 in Ireland, and died Abt. 1849 in Broyles Farm, Monroe Co, VA.He married (1) Mary Ann Dowdy on March 05, 1821 in Bedford Co, VA, daughter of William Dowdy, Sr. and Elizabeth Creasy.He married (2) Mary Pennington Dunn on November 24, 1846 in Red Sulphur Springs, Monroe County, Virginia. Notes for Michael Crotty: 1. Michael Crotty came to America about 1813 with 2 brothers and a sister, the sister died during the voyage and was buried at sea. Michael served 7 years as an indentured servant to Dr. James Floyd in Bedford City, Virginia.He then obtained his citizenship and married Mary Ann Dowdy in 1821. She resided just south of Liberty (now Bedford City), Virginia.She died in 1844 and Michael then migrated to Red Sulphur Springs, Monroe County, Virginia. 2. Michael's first nine children were born in Bedford County and the next three in Franklin County, and the last two children were born in Monroe County. Michael had 7 sons and 1 grandson serve in the confederate army from Mercer, Monroe and Greenbrier Co, VA. Aug. 21, 1861 they joined Co.
