Notes for Sidney Zimel:
I graduated from high school in 1926 in Rock Island, IL.I attended Augustana College for about one semester. The rest of my eduction was in the Zimel University of agriculture and produce distributing.I was in the army for a short time in 1943.Then I moved to San Luis, CO andactually went into agriculture.I grew potatoes and vegetables.I also operated what we called in our industry, packing plants, shipping our products all over the country. We even exported some of there. From there I moved to Uvalde, TX and became involved in 100% agriculture. After a severe freeze, I moved to Poenix, AZ.After Phoenix, I moved to McAllen, TX in the '50s and engaged in the same line of business - growing fruits and vegetables and shipping hem.I also had an operation in Mexico proper. At times we enjoyed a world-wide distribution. The operation became quite large, as a matter of fact, too large. The the Almighty took care of us with three hurricanes and two freezes which wiped us out completely.Upon that reversal, we moved to Los Angeles, CA where we were at least assured of decent growing weather and we started up, not in growing but in distributing and brokerage.
