|My family includes McGee, Massey, Burkes, Bailey, Moore, Allen and Wilkersons. All families are in the 4 corners area of Attala, Leake, Neshoba and Winston counties of central MS.|
My father was Ennis Burkes of Zama and later of Kosciusko. His line I can trace back to William Burkes and Mollie Mullins. They married in 1825 in Alabama. William and Mollie moved to Kemper County Mississippi and we listed on the tax rolls of 1842. They are on the census of 1840 but not 1850. Family members say William died and is buried in Kemper County. Mollie remarried and the family moved to Neshoba County by 1860, William and Mollie's son Stephen Garrett married Mary Adcock the daughter of Sam Adcock and Huldah Adcock. Stephen served in the 40th company G of the 14th infantry during the Cilvil War. THey are listed in the 1870 census in Beat 5 Neshoba County. They lived in the White Oak Community. By 1880 they had moved their family to Beat 5 Attala County in the Tabernacle-New Hope area. Steve died in 1892 and is buried at Tabernacle.Mary died around 1915 and is buried there also. Their son Silas married Molly Baily the daughter of Tabitha Elizabeth Sullivant and James Bailey.Molly and Silas raised their family of 3 boys in the Ayres Community of Beat 5 Attala County. Molly and Silas son Landreth Allen(Lanny) married Lena Inez Massey the daughter of Willie Thomas Massey and Sarah(Sallie)Maude McGee. Lanny and Lena had 5 children and raised their family in the Macedonia Glendale community near Zama. Lena and Inez's son Ennis married my mother Mildred in 1947.She was the daughter of Ella Mae Allen and William Claude Moore of Madden,Ms.
