Another Of Rome's Noble Pioneers, Laid at Rest.
Mrs. Earnesta Oelke
On Saturday, Dec. 27, 1902, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. GustOelke occurred the death of one of Rome's noble pioneers, Mrs. Earnesta Oelke,age 76 years 6 months and 6 days. Theinfirmities of old age and feebleness caused her to slip a short time ago andsustain injuries which hastened the final result. Deceased came to the United States with her husband and familyfrom Germany in the year 1865 and settled on a farm in this township and thusby hard and honest toil, by an upright Christianable life laid the foundationfor the grand homes that her sons and daughters now occupy close by the spottheir dear and now departed mother with them all about her, endured thehardships of pioneer life. In hersturdy family left behind, she left a monument of glory and honor to God, tothe nation of her adoption, and to society and the neighborhood in which theylive and from which she has forever departed. Six children survive her: William, Leopold and Gust Oelke, near Marna, and Rudolph Oelke ofRochester, Minn., Mrs. Della Block of Blue Earth, Mrs. W. D. Fenske, of Elmoretownship. Mrs. Leopold Willmert of BlueEarth is also a sister of the departed.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Utzinger at theGerman Evangelical Association church east of Blue Earth and the remainsinterred in the cemetery on Tuesday, December 30, 1902. The funeral train was very large, showingthe high esteem in which the family is held by all those who know them. All through her life, deceased was a greatadmirer and lover of flowers and those of her old friends left behind gatheredabout their bier and decorated the casket with many large and beautifulbouquets.
