DIED HACKLANDER
Near Blue Earth City, Minnesota, Wednesday evening,January 27, 1886 of apoplexy, Mr. Robert Hacklander, aged 64 years and 7months.
As is indicated by the nature of the disease, Mr.Hacklander's death was very sudden. He,in company with his wife, came to town on the afternoon of Wednesday andbetween 4:00 and 5:00 p.m., started home in apparent good health andspirits. When just beyond thefairgrounds he reached back for something in the sleigh behind him when hesuddenly said "O Ma! OMa!" He seemed about to fall whenhis wife took hold of him. It was withgreat difficulty that she kept him in his seat and drove the horses to theresidence of H. A. Faunce, some rods away. He was taken into the house and Dr. Couper at once summoned. His heart beat for at least an hour afterthe fist attack, but he never spoke after uttering the exclamation abovequoted. The funeral was held on Sundayat 1:00 p.m. from the German Evangelical Association church, of which Church hewas a devout member. The sermon waspreached by his pastor, Rev. M. Brill, after which the remains were interred inour cemetery.
Mr. Hacklander was born near Cologne, Prussia and came toAmerica in 1853 settling in Green Lake County, Wisconsin. Ten years later he came to Minnesota andsettled on the homestead he occupied at the time of his death, about four milesNorth of this city, on the west side of the river. He leaves a wife and seven children - three boys and 4 girls - tomourn his loss. Mr. Hacklander was oneof our best citizens and his loss will be deeply mourned by a large circle offriends.

OBITUARY
Christian Manske died on October 4, 1904 of cholera morbusat the age of 70 years, 9 months and 9 days. His funeral was held at the Blue Earth German Lutheran church. Christian was born December 25, 1833 atPodstolitz, Kreis Colmar [sic], Province Posen, Prussia and came to Wisconsinwith his boyhood chum Christian Matthews in 1857. In 1860 he came to Blue Earth and settled on a farm four and 1/2miles East of this city. He marriedCaroline Zelmar on June 10, 1861 who passed away January 16, 1902. They had three children; son Edward L., deceased; daughter H.Elizabeth, Mrs. John Frank; and Henry T. of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.

"Anyone who has not passed by and taken notice of thedouble-rose blooming apple tree in the yard of Mrs. Amelia Hacklander shouldmake it a point to do so. Mrs.Hacklander said her late husband, Albert, bought the tree 4 years ago. The blossoms resemble an apple blossom butare double and half open, resembling a hot house rose."

DEATH NOTICES [In Part]
HACKLANDER - Athis home in Blue Earth City, Minnesota, Saturday, December 31, 1898 of acomplication of diseases, Albert Hacklander aged 48 years, 8 months, and 20days.
The deceased was born in Dusseldorf, Prussia April 11,1850. In 1853 at the age of 3 years hecame with his parents to America locating at Princeton, Wisconsin where theyremained for ten years and in 1863 he removed with his folks to Minnesotalocating on the old homestead about 3 miles NW of this city. Later he purchased a farm about 1/2 mileWest of his father's. On October 30,1879 he was married to Miss Amelia Gartzke of Blue Earth City Township, and ofthis union resulted in six children --
two sons and 4 daughters, who all survive him.
About 12 years ago the farmers in this section erected afarmer's elevator and selected Mr. Hacklander to manage the same. This necessitated his removal to Blue EarthCity with his family where he resided until his death.......................

Death and Funeral fo The Late Albert Hacklander
Our readers will very much regret to learn of the death ofAlbert Hacklander which occurred early last Saturday morning, the last day ofthe old year, at his home in this city, after an illness of about two weeks.
Two weeks ago last Sunday afternoon the late Mr.Hacklander and his wife drove out to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Manske,residing on Rev. E. H. Bauman's farm north of town, to make a brief friendlycall. They had not been there longuntil Mr. Hacklander showed signs of being seriously ill. He was induced to take to bed and Dr. Huntwas called who pronounced the patient's trouble that of the heart. The sick man remained at Mr. Manske's for aday or two, or until it was deemed safe and advisable to bring him to his ownresidence. Here under the skillfultreatment of his physician he grew better and only a few short days before hisdemise Mr. Hacklander gave evidences of soon being able to be up again. But, contrary to the expectations of friendshe took a relapse which eventually caused his death.
Deceased was a Prussian by birth having been born inDusselldorf [sic], April 11, 1850, making him at his death 48 years, 8 monthsand 20 days old. He located in thiscounty in 1863 and has ever since resided here, the first few years on the farmeast [sic] of town and for the past twelve years in this city where he has beenengaged in the grain and fuel business.
Mr. Hacklander was a man very highly respected by everyone who knew him. He was of a quiet andreserved disposition, kind and gentle yet a man of strong wholesome habits andhigh sense of honor and justice which endeared him to all. He was a faithful and consistent member ofthe Evangelical church of this city and stood high in that denomination as apromoter of Christianity not only in the pales of the church but in his dailywalks of life as well.
The funeral of Mr. Hacklander took place from his churchhome at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, brief services first being held at thefamily residence at 1 o'clock. The sadevent was very largely attended. Theobsequies were in charge of the pastor, Rev. H. Plantikow, who preached a mosttenderly eloquent sermon, full of consolation and Christian comfort. He took for his text: "Our Friend LazarusSleepeth." There were also presentand took part in the services Revs. F. R. Plantikow, of Mankato, JosephKeinholz, of Emanuel's [sic] church east of the city, and E. H. Bauman and Dr.Newhouse, of this city. The malequarter which sang so beautifully at the funeral of the late Adolph Missall,also sang here. The other music wasalso touching and impressive. The housewas not large enough to accommodate the throngs of friends of deceased whodesired to pay their last tribute of respect to the honored dead.
By Mr. Hacklander's death a large company of relatives areleft to mourn the loss of a devoted and loving husband, a kind, indulgentfather and a true and faithful friend. These have the sympathy of a large concourse of friends and neighborswho join in the universal sorrow over a good man's death.

MARRIED AT EVANGELICAL CHURCH
The marriage of Miss Helena Ruth Geyman, daughter of Rev.Adam Geyman, pastor of the Evangelical church of this city, to Mr. GeorgeMueller, of St. Paul, took place at the church here Wenesday evening, Aug. 27,1913, at 8 o'clock.
Miss Geyman entered the church, accompanied by herfather. The bridesmaids were Miss HelenReid, of Mankato, Miss Stubstad, of Winona, and Misses Emilie and Grace Geyman,sisters of the bride, of Blue Earth. The groom was attended by Herman and Ben Mueller, brothers of the groom,and Raymond Hermann and Albert Mittag.
The church was beautifully decorated in a bower of green,by the Sunday school, assisted by Mrs. Albert Tressler.
The bride wore a gown of white charmeuse with a veil, andcarried bride's roses.
Miss Emilie Geyman and Miss Stubstad wore pink gowns andthe Misses Reid and Grace Geyman wore yellow and carried sweet peas.
The ceremony was performed by Rev. R M. Mueller, ofFaribault, father of the groom, assisted by Rev. A. Geyman, father of thebride. The church was filled withfriends and members of the congregation, and the ceremony was a very impressiveone. The young couple were made therecipients of many gifts of cut glass and silver.
They left the next day for St. Paul, where they will maketheir future home. The Register,together with a host of friends, wish them much joy and happiness.
The out of town guests were Rev. and Mrs. R. M. Mueller,and sons Ben and Herman Mueller, of Faribault; Albert Mittag of Schenectady, New York; Raymond Herrman, of Henderson, Minn; Miss Helen Stubstad, of Winona, and Miss Helen Reid, of Mankato.
[The mother of the groom is Emma Bunse, oldest daughter ofHerman Bunse and Henrietta Goettel.]

OBITUARY
AMELIA HACKLANDER
Amelia Hacklander, nee Gartz- [sic] was born December 5,1853, in Germany. She died at the homeof her daughter, Mrs Dan Goettel, at Lansing, Iowa, on Palm Sunday afternoon,April 2, 1939, at the age of 85 years, three months and twenty-seven days. At the age of 15 years, she came to thiscountry, making her home at Blue Earth, Minnesota. Since that time, with the exception of the last three years shespent in the home of her two daughters, Mrs Leslie Gruber and Mrs Dan Goettelof Lansing, Iowa, she has been a resident of Faribault County, a period ofapproximately 67 years.
On October 30, 1879, she was married to Albert Hacklanderof Blue Earth. They had sevenchildren. Mrs Hacklander joined theImmanuel Evangelical Church, east of Blue Earth at the age of 15 years. During the past 50 years or more, she hasbeen a member of the Salem Evangelical church of this city. She was a charter member of the Ladies AidSociety and of the Womens Missionary Society in this church.
Her husband preceded her in death in the year 1898. Two of her children have also died: Mrs Sam Neuman, who died in 1929, and AlvinHacklander, who died in 1936. Those whosurvive are one brother, Gustave Gartzke of Blue Earth; three sisters, Mrs. Walter Willmert, of BlueEarth; Mrs G H Schaefer ofRochester; Mrs Mary Werner of BlueEarth; three daughters, Mrs Dan Goettelof Lansing, Iowa; Mrs Leslie Gruber ofLansing; Mrs John King of St Paul; two sons, Ira Hacklander of St Paul; Albert Hacklander of Blue Earth.
There are 23 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren aswell as many friends.
Funeral services for Mrs Amelia Hacklander were held onWednesday morning at ten o'clock from Conings funeral home and at ten-thirtyfrom the Evangelical church with Rev H E Hiller in charge. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.

"Ellen Schmidt, nee Hacklander, was born on June 15,1852 in Germany and died April 16, 1931 at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 1day. With her parents she came to thiscountry in 1853 locating at Wisconsin. About ten years later, in 1863, she moved with her parents to the oldhomestead, located 3 miles north of Blue Earth, Minnesota. In 1879 she was united in marriage toFrederick C. Schmidt. She was precededin death by her husband, in 1906. Sheis suvived by three sons and two daughters; two sisters and two brothers."
[Ellen was living in San Bernardino, California in 1920and it would seem likely that she was still living there at the time of herdeath.]

OBITUARY --- EDWIN HACKLANDER
Edwin Hacklander, one of the retired rural mail carriersof Blue Earth passed away at his home on West Eighth street in this city,Saturday evening, October 20th, at the age of 73 years, two months and eightdays, following his last illness of nearly seven months duration from anapoplectic stroke, which was the third one.
Mr. Hacklander was born in Wisconsin, August 12, 1861, hisparents being Robert and Regena Hacklander.
He received his education in rural school District 30, anda course at St. Paul Business college. He owned and operated a hardware store at Welcome for a number of yearsand then took up farming near Blue Earth. Following his retirement he moved to this city and took the position ofmail carrier on Route No. 5 of Blue Earth, which he continued for 27 years whenhe was pensioned.
He united with the local Methodist church in 1926, and wasa member of the local Masonic Lodge, which took part in the last rites for abeloved brother.
He was married on March 25, 1896, at Welcome to AdelaideBurgess, who died. He was married againJuly 19, 1928, in Blue Earth to Rhoda Champney, who survives him. Mr. Hacklander was the father of twochildren, one daughter, who preceded him in death, and a son Delos H.Hacklander, who survives, of this city. He also leaves two sisters, Sarah and Augusta Hacklander of SanBernardino, Calif.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from his late homeand from the Methodist church at two o'clock, Rev. J. W. Taylor, the pastorofficiating, and the interment was made at Riverside.
Those present from away at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Brooks and Mrs. Sorenson ofBrookings, S. D., Mr. and Mrs. Friend of Sioux City, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold of Long Prairie, Mr. Spencer, Mrs. George Baldwin and Mrs.Tummelson of Litchfield, Mr. and Mrs.C. A. Cahoon of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Jessie Cahoon of Cambridge.
[Rhoda appears to have been nee Arnold, so Champney islikely a name from a previous marriage. Edwin is buried with Rhoda.]

FUNERAL SERVICES MONDAY FOR ALBERT HACKLANDER
Funeral services for Albert Hacklander, 59, lifelongresident of Faribault County, were held at Salem E.U.B. church here at 2:00p.m. Monday. Mr. Hacklander died of aheart attack at his farm home in Jo Daviess township Thursday morning April 10,1958.
He was born March 27, 1899 to Albert and Amelia Hacklanderand spent all his life as a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Sina. There were no children. Sisters and a brother are Mrs. Caroline Kingof St. Paul, Mrs. Salome Gruber of Lansing, Iowa and Ira Hacklander of St.Paul.
The Rev. E. M. Schendel officiated at the last rites andburial was at Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Sina Hacklander
Services were held Monday at St. Luke's Lutheran HomeChapel for Mrs. Sina Hacklander, 76, of Blue Earth with burial at RiversideCemetery.
Mrs. Hacklander died Saturday at home where she residedsince 1964. The Forsman-Patton FuneralHome was in charge.
Born Sina Bakke August 6, 1900 in Clayton, Wisconsin, shewas married to Albert Hacklander on March 6, 1926 in Blue Earth. Mrs. Hacklander taught school for severalyears before and after her marriage. Her husband was a farmer and died in 1858.
Survivors include two brothers; Chris, of Spring Valley,Wisconsin and Siguard, of Lake Port [sic], California.

The following obituary was gathered at the Blue EarthPublic Library, Blue Earth, Minnesota on August 1, 2001 by me, Steven L.Goettel. Both newspapers, The BlueEarth Post and The Faribault County Register had essentially the same obituary,but I neglected to notate which one I copied. Also, the obit ran the full length of the front page and required that Iphotocopy it in 3 pages. I misplaced orleft the 3rd page so the last couple paragraphs are missing. However, it can be noted that much of thecontent is duplicated in the Evangelical Association obituary, some verbatim,and I don't think any information of significance is left out. It varies only in detail and points ofemphasis but I add it to the file for record.

DEATH OF REV. FREDERICK C. SCHMIDT

Our people were greatly surprised and shocked on Wednesdaymorning, January 31, 1906, upon learning that Rev. F. C. Schmidt had diedsuddenly that morning from heart disease at this home in the northeastern partof the city at an early hour, aged 62 years, 6 months and 26 days. He had been heard moving about his roombefore daylight and had gone back to bed. His son had arisen later and while about the house heard a noiseresembling a groan coming from his father's room. With his mother they went to his bed and found Mr. Schmidt justexpiring.
The funeral was held on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock atthe Evangelical church. A large crowdwas in attendance. Rev. M. Schoenlebenspoke in the German language and Rev. A. H. Utzinger in English. The following clergymen also assisted: Rev. C. F. Kachel, Wells; Rev. J. Manthey, Le Sueur; Rev. C. W. Sydow, Fairmont; Rev. J. Kienholz, St. Paul; Rev. J. G. Simon, Faribault; Rev. W. A. Juedes, Mankato. The relatives from abroad were Rev. A.Schmidt and wife from Dakota; JohnSchmidt, St. Charles; Mrs.Messerschmidt, St. Charles; Mrs.Goettel, Lansing, Iowa; Mesdames Trappand Peters, North Dakota, and Rev. C. F. Sydow, Redwood, Minn.
Frederick Carl Schmidt was born in Fuerstenfelde, Prussia,July 7, 1843. At the age of five yearshe came with his parents to this country. His childhood and youth were spent with his parents at Lomira, Wis. At the beginning of the civil war FrederickC. Schmidt's name was among the first to be enrolled among his country'syouthful and patriotic defenders. Hejoined Company "H," Thirty Sixth Illinois Vounteer Infantry. After serving his enlistment of three yearsin this regiment, he reenlisted and served until the close of the war ------ alittle over four years. His regiments,with private Schmidt always in the ranks, were engaged in 23 battles, some ofwhich were the bloodiest of that bloody war. Schmidt was twice wounded and once taken prisoner, but soon managed toescape amid a shower of shot from the enemy.
After receiving his honorable discharge at the close ofthe war he came to St. Charles, Minn., where he lived on a farm for sometime. In 1865 he was married to MissAugusta Zimmerman. This union wasblessed with five children. After tenyears of happy wedlock Mrs. Schmidt died. Three of their children have since then also passed away. Four years later, the 21st of April 1879, hewas united in marriage with Miss Ellen A. Hacklander of Blue Earth. To them were given three sons and twodaughters. Rev. Schmidt was a kindhusband and a loving father; always greatly concenered about the welfare of hisfamily.
He was converted in 1875 under the labors of Rev. J.Kienholz and united with the Evangelical Association. Shortly after his conversion he felt the call to theministry. In the spring of 1876 he waslicensed as a preacher on probation at the session of the Minnesota conferenceof the Evangelical church. For twentyseven years he stood in the active ranks of the itinerant ministry. During this time he served the followingfields: Kasson one year; New Auburn three years; St. Cloud three years; Elizabeth 3 years; Fairmont three years; Luverne three years; Bellinghamone year. As a minister he was earnest,faithful and conscienctious[sic] and served his appointments withpunctuality. His services wereacceptable and successful. He preachedthe word with great liberty and the blessings of the Master rested upon hislabors. He was enabled to point manysinners to the cross of Christ.
During the last year of his ministry at Bellingham in1903, he found it necessary to step out of the active ministry on account offailing health. He then came to BlueEarth where he has resided ever since. Althoughnot being in the active ranks he still assisted in the work whenever it waspossible for him to do so. Besidesassisting the ministers on their respective fields of labors, he acted as classleader in the local congregation and was otherwise interested in the work ofthe church.
The cause of his death was rheumatism and hearttrouble. For some years he has sufferedon account of … [balance of article missing]
