Margarete Diebold, born Hamm, onJune 18, 1818 in Ingenheim Elsasz (Elsac Moraine). In 1841 she married Michael Diebold. They were blessed with 7 children, 2 died intheir youth. In 1852 the family sailedto New York, where they lived almost 4 years. Then they moved west to Chicago where they stayed a short time, and in1855 they moved to Freeport, Illinois. Here they joined a church. In1856 they moved to Preston, Minnesota, where mother Diebold lived hereafter. She was a gentle Christianmother, and a true member of the church. In her whole life she prayed that God lead her to the End. On her death bed she declared true faith inJesus. She died February 12, 1914, atthe age of 95 years, 7 months and 25 days at the home of her daughter. She was survived by one son, 4 daughters, 27grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and other relatives. May the Lord give us all a happy reunion inheaven. H. A. Seder

I found this obituary in Lois(Schmidt) Gillespie's papers from the Preston Republican newspaper, Preston,Minnesota on February 13, 1914.
Mrs. Michael Diebold nee, MargaretHamm, was born June 13, 1818 in Elsasz Lotringen, where in 1841 she was unitedin matrimony to Michael Diebold. Thisunion was blessed with five daughters and two sons. In 1852 the family migrated to this countrylanding in New York; hence they moved to Chicago. Mr. Diebold did not like Chicago and after afew weeks sojourn there, they removed to Freeport, Ill., where Mr. Dieboldworked for four years at his chosen profession, that of a stone mason. Here they were converted to God and unitedwith the Evangelical Church. In 1856they came to Preston where the departed resided ever since, remaining afaithful member of the Evangelical church for a period of sixty years. This is certainly a beautiful Christiancharacter and was a devoted child of God to the very end of her life.
The cause of her death was oldage. For about nine weeks she wasconfined to her bed on account of injuries received by a fall. She was a great sufferer for a time, but borethis ordeal with patience. Last week itbecame apparent that her life could not be prolonged many days and all of herchildren were summoned to her bedside.
Mrs. August Wiegand, who had caredfor her mother with kindest affection was assisted during the last days by hersisters and brother in alleviating the sufferings of a loving mother, and onThursday afternoon the sainted spirit took its flight to the home beyond theskies to join the ransomed of the Lord forever more, at the age of 95 years, 7months and 25 days.
Grandma Diebold leaves to mourn oneson, Michael Diebold of Zion City, Ill., and four daughters, they are: Mrs. Mary Ginder and Mrs. August Wiegland ofthis city; Mrs. Margaret Schmidt and Mrs. Anna Dempewolfe of Ladysmith,Wis. She is also survived by 27grandchildren, and 43 great grandchildren besides a large circle of moredistant relatives and many friends.
The funeral services will be heldfrom the Evangelical church Sunday at 11:00 a.m. The remains will be laid to rest in theEvangelical cemetery, where the body will rest until resurrection day.
