Mrs. A. WiegandPassed Away on Monday Morning
85 Year Old PioneerHad Been Resident of Preston All Her Life
Funeral servicesfor Mrs. August Wiegand, 85 year old pioneer resident of this village whopassed away at her home here at 3 Monday morning, were held Wednesdayafternoon. There was a prayer servicefor the family at 1:15 at the Heitner chapel, followed by services at 2 fromthe Evangelical church, Rev. Donald E. Roesti officiating. She was laid to rest beside her husband inthe church cemetery. Pallbearers wereJoe Hahn, Lyle Austin, Ed Kleimenhagen, Moppy Anderson, W. E. Neuman andWilliam Rathke.
Grandma Wiegand hadsuffered from heart trouble of late years. She had a heart attack Sunday evening, followed at 3 Monday morning by asecond attack which claimed her life.
Miss Emma Dieboldwas born March 17, 1860, on the Diebold farm south of Preston and upon growingto womanhood, was on December 17, 1878, united in marriage in Preston to AugustWiegand. They made their home here fromthen until his death on May 24, 1934, with the exception of six years spent atHoward, S. D., following their marriage.
Sheis survived by one daughter Mrs. Jake Kumm who with her husband resided withher mother the past several years, both tenderly caring for her; likewise bythree sons, Raymond of La Crosse, Edwin of Preston, and Vernon of Louisville,Ky., who arrived here on Tuesday to be present for funeral services. Grandma Wiegand is also survived by sevengrandchildren. Besides her parents andhusband she was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
