Jacob E. (Jake) Kumm, 81 year oldretired veteran Preston barber, passed away last Friday evening at theLillejord Rest Home in Lanesboro, where he had been under care since sufferinga stroke a week previously at his home here. He had been in ill health for the past year. Funeral services were held Monday afternoonof this week at the Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston, Rev. David Schneider,pastor of the Preston and Spring Valley E.U.B. Churches, officiating, and hewas laid to rest in the Crown Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were: RobertHellickson, Dr. M. E. Love, James Hahn, Roger McKenzie, Roy Riehl, and WilletStoskopf. The Preston Masonic Lodge, ofwhich he was a member, conducted a service at the Funeral Home Sunday evening.
Jake wasborn March 26, 1880, on a farm near La Crosse, Wisconsin, and lived in LaCrosse and South Dakota before coming to Preston in 1903 to work as abarber. In 1907 he opened his ownbarbershop here, which he operated until retiring in 1956. He married the former Hannah Wiegand ofPreston on November 1, 1908. He leavesto mourn his departure of his wife; three brothers, Emil, Otto, and Christ, allof La Crosse; one sister, Mrs. Louise Maschek of La Crosse; and several niecesand nephews. All have our sympathy.
