Funeral services were held Tuesdayafternoon in the Thauwald Funeral Home, Rev. Dave S. Schneider of Spring Valleyofficiating, for Edwin J. (Ed) Wiegand, 72, of Preston, who passed away at10:30 last Saturday evening at his farm home on Preston's east outskirtsfollowing an illness of two months. Hehad returned home last week from the Methodist Colonial Hospital in Rochesterwhere he underwent surgery. He was laidto rest in the Crown Hill Cemetery. Pallbearerswere Ernie Schwartz, James Hahn, Reuben Hahn, Walter Dreier, Aymour Gabbert,and Targe Christianson. Ed, son of thelate Mr. and Mrs. August Wiegand, was born in Preston January 24, 1888, and asa youth became associated with his father in the Wiegand produce business,which he continued to operate until 1936. Since then he had devoted his entire time to farming. He was united in marriage on June 5, 1907, toMiss Lilly Doebbert of Preston. Heleaves to mourn his departure of his wife; two sons, Kermit of Fairmont, andForrest at home; a daughter Evelyn (Mrs. Clair Hovelson) of Preston; eightgrandchildren, and two great grandchildren; one brother Vernon Wiegand ofCincinnati, Ohio; and one sister, Mrs. J. E. Kumm of Preston. All have our sympathy. Besides his parents he was preceded in deathby a brother, Raymond.
