Sid was transporting a prisoner to the State Penitentiary in Lincoln in 1935 when he was involved in a one-car crash.He suffered a severe spinal injury.In March of 1938 he became paralyzed from the waist down and died in May of 1938. Lily's sister Minnie, wrote; My firstview of Sioux County was on February 25, 1887. when sister Lily and I, girls of 16 and 18 respectively, stepped off of the F. E. & M. V. passenger train at Bowen.We were met by our father B. F. Thomas and ushered into the living room of the depotwhich was occupied by Charles Tubbs a contractor and builder, his wife and two school aged children, Edith and Johnnie.The station agent James Northrup was a bachelor as were most of the inhabitants of Sioux County at that time. Lily had black eyes and hair, which fell almost to her ankles. Lily and Sid were estranged when she died.She left and went back to live with her parents in Greenfield, Mo. near or shortly after the birth of their fifth child Floyd on October 3, 1903.The surviving children lived for about year with her mother Sarah Roseannah (Hamlin) Thomas.After Lily's death the children went back to live with their father.
