Letter from Interior Department dated Sept. 7, 1939 to Frances Lucille Rice, Nashville, TN, regarding Revolutionary War service of Leroy Taylor:
"Reference is made to your letter in which you request the Revolutionary War record of Leeroy Taylor, who served from North Carolina, and was pensioned while living in Tennessee.
"The data furnished herein were obtained from papers on file in claim for pension, S. 1934, based upon the military service of Laroy Taylor in the Revolutionary War.The name is shown, also, Leeroy and Leroy Taylor.
"The date and place of birth of Laroy Taylor and names of his parents are not given.
"While residing in Burke County, North Carolina, Laroy Taylor volunteered in the fall of 1776 in Captain Reuben White's company, Colonel Charles McDowell's North Carolina regiment, a few weeks later his Captain was killed by the Indians, and Laroy Taylor was put in command of the company, in which rank he served more than three months.He was captain from March 27, 1778 until February 8, 1779, under Colonels Beekman and McDowell, during which time he was out in several short tours.He moved in the spring of 1780 to western North Carolina, which was later Tennessee, and settled in Washington County, and served three months as captain of Light Horsemen on the frontier against the Cherokee Indians.
"Laroy Taylor was allowed pension on his application executed September 24, 1832, at which time he was seventy-four years old, and living in Washington County, Tennessee.
"He died March 24, 1834, leaving no widow, and was survived by a granddaughter, Margaret Irvin.
"The papers on file in this claim contain no data in regard to the wife of Laroy Taylor, and there are no further discernible data in regard to his family.
"In order to obtain the names and address of the person, who received the last payment of this pension, you should apply to The Comptroller General, General Accounting Office, Records Division, this city, and furnish the following data:
"Laroy Taylor
"Certificate 7046
"Issued February 27, 1833
"Rate $143.33 per annum
"Commenced March 4[?], 1831
"Act of June 7, 1832
"Jonesborough, Tennessee Agency.
"Very truly yours,

He is also listed as a Revolutionary War pension applicant (S1934) in "Index of Revolutionary War Pension Applications" (National Genealogical Society, Washington, D.C., 1966), as follows:"Taylor, Laroy (or Leroy or Leeroy), N.C., later Tenn. & settled in Washington Co., d. 3/24/1834, survived by granddaughter Margaret Irvin. S1934."
