Dodsons and Other Kinfolk of Jackson Co. MO
The Dodson family of Jackson Co., Missouri traces backthru Indiana and Kentucky to 1600s Virginia. Some other related surnames are Cummins, Lewis, Baugh, Adams, Simpson, Bault, Hunter and Fain. The Cummins, Lewis, Baugh and Adams families were in what is now Jackson County as early as 1826. William Adams came from Tennessee about 1830; James Lewis and his brother Nathaniel Lewis and their families came from North Carolina by way of Kentucky and Indiana. James Lewis married Ann Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of John Stewart and Hannah Boone (sister of Daniel). William Johnson Baugh is descended from the Baugh family of England and Virginia. He married Mary "Polly" Lewis, the sister of Nathaniel Lewis, in Madison Co. Kentucky and trekked on to Missouri to become a prominent citizen, justice of the peace and landowner. Most of these people lived out their lives and died in Jackson County, many of them suffering through the Border War of the War Between the States. The Hunter and Fain kinfolk came from Jessamine County, Kentucky about 1866 as many people resettled after the end of the War. I invite you to search my family for connections to yours and contact me with your input. I will be happy to share documentation when possible. | Dodsons and Other Kinfolk of Jackson Co.
