The major surnames that my daughter Christy and I are researching are LONG, COOPER, CARROLL, BRADDOCK, BARNES, MILLER, KORNEGAY, TAYLOR, MCNAIR, LEE, STRICKLAND, MAYFIELD, KEATON and BUCHANAN. William Long, is believed to have entered the U.S. from Ireland in the 1700's, still trying to document this info.The states that he settled in were Washington County, Virginia, and then Franklin County, Tennessee.He later moved his family to Choctaw County, Alabama. My great grandfather, James Harrison Long, born 1855, in Cyril, Choctaw Co., AL, married Mary Elizabeth Miller, born 1853, and had four children by this union, Sarah Ida, Marvin Elvin, Arvin Clinton, and James Martin.Mary Miller died in 1898 and James then married Lura Rebecca Tims, born 1872, and had four more children, Rudy Elizabeth, Earl Graden, Pearl Maiden and Arthur Leon. Marvin Elvin Long, second child of James and Mary, was my grandfather.He married Corrie Lee Cooper, born March 26, 1890, they had twelve children, Martie Mae, Infant who died, Della Virginia, James Delano, Lucy Helen, Bevin Austin, Ada Florence, Ruth Elizabeth, Robert Carlton, William Curtis, Samuel Marvin, Annie Bell. Robert Carlton Long, born November 25, 1920, is my father and he married Nellie Marie Braddock, born December 1, 1921, and they had my brother, Robert Curtis Long and myself, Frances Marie Long.Nellie Marie's parents were William E. Braddock and Mary Alice Barnes of Rose Hill, Jasper County, Mississippi. I married Charles Bruce Woodham, born February 5, 1938, and we have two daughters, Charlene Marie, born March 27, 1965, and Christine Holly, born October 18, 1971.Charlene married James Edward Peace, born October 9, 1964, and they have two children, Jarrett Charles, born June 23, 1986, and Brooke Marie, born July 14,1987. | The Marie Long Family Home Page Updated April 21, 2001 |
