THE TRIP TO ALABAMA
In the 1820's John Tew moved to Pike Co, AL. On Dec 18, 1832 Barbour Co was created out of part of Pike Co & land sessions from the Creek Indians. In 1836-7 there was the "Creek Indian Wars" at which time, John's children began coming to AL... some to help fight the Indians & to settle land.
John had a sister named Elizabeth who married James Wooten abt 1790. Between 1838 & 1841, their son Jordan & family [wife Mary Strickland & 5 children: James Daniel, Frances Elizabeth 'Eliza', Lucivy 'Lucy' Jane, Isaac, William Jordan] left Sampson Co, NC by wagon train for Barbour County, AL... The Tew's, Strickland's and Wooten's (so far as I can tell as of today, 09/27/2001).
The 1850 Barbour Co, AL census shows Jordan Wooten as Jourdan WHOOTEN (sic), and his 7 children. (Later census' list him as Jordan Wooten).
....When the Civil War started 3 of Jordan's sons enlisted in the 33rd AL Inf. [Co I ], along with some Jowers and Strickland's I haven't connected yet [ie: A.J. Strickland /33rd/Co F/3-11-62]
...A Smithsonian document shows Jordan had to sign for the death benefit for his son Issac. Thanks to J. Folmar for digging this data up.
...In 1857 James Daniel WOOTEN (Jordan's son) married Matilda Caroline JOWERS in Henry Co, AL.
....I need PROOF for the Rebecca English/Mitchell/Brewer marriages. & better info on WHICH Brewer she married (Mastin or Pickett or Mastin "Pickett").
....I really, REALLY need a definitive list of the WOOTEN's in North Carolina prior to 1840 & the relatives there.
.... I need help with 1840-1940 FL/AL Wooten's.
Is there a possible connection to Wooten's in Georgia?
What about the Wooten's role in the Atlanta Campaign? Or the Wooten's of the 33rd that fought at Pickett's Mill?
Since I have gotten so much data from kind souls, I'm forced to remind you that any data found MUST be confirmed. This is NOT God's "Book of Life". It WILL have mistakes.
With YOUR help, I can make it better.
With YOUR help, I can fix any mistakes.
I will make a privatized GEDCOM available to those that ask. A GEDCOM *not* privatized is only available to kin... & even then you have to get by my "radar" cuz I don't want anyone to yell at me for violating their privacy. Deceased individuals are public property BY LAW.
....Any constructive comments/tips/HELP appreciated.
Really & truly.
