The Wrates of Bankside, London , EnglandUpdated February 15, 2005
|I have started this research initially to try and link a Wrate that I came across in Canada to the UK side of the family. His name is Jack and he went to Canada as a boy and only returned during WWII.|
This rapidly became more interesting as WRATE is an unusual spelling of the name and there do not seem many of us about.
I have done some research already in the Family Records Office but am currently trying to place the Wrates who are still alive into a family tree and explore their knowledge of their families. My starting point at present is Francis John and his wife Florence who was my great grandfather. They had 10 children, 6 boys and 4 girls.
We had a reunion on 15th June 2002 when my Aunt Viwas over from Australia which brought together some 25 members of the family - most of whom had never met before.
I am managing now to put together marriages and deaths and link some siblings thanks to this and other sites which have been extremely useful.
I am of the opinion that there were definitely 2 sides to the family - one seems to have originated in Kent where John, James and Henry seem to have been the main names ; the other appears mainly in Norfolk where Francis is the main male name with Arthur, William and Susannah being others that crop up quite often. This is interesting as my middle name is Susan and certainly in my generation and later this name is reappearing. In fact there is at least one other Carol Susan and a Suzanne Carol.
If anyone has copies of old certificates that would help me i would be really grateful. So please feel free to contact me to correct mistakes or just to chat about the tree..
Am getting closer to linking Jack from Canada into the equation thanks to the 1871 census information I found....
Have found that the Wrate family had emmigres to the USA in the 1850's...excellent fun...thanks for stopping by!!
