|Research for the BAKER line has been ongoing for some thirty years.Although my other lines have at times taken precedence.|
As more information develops, more questions remain unanswered.
For instance I have collected thru the US Census the christian names of BAKER children who were heretofore only known by nicknames.
I know where most of these children wandered and whom they married. The greatest area of unknown is prior to 1848-50 in CANADA, where James Thorne BAKER is listed in that census of Perth Co, Fullerton Twp along with the notation that he was born in Pt Hope, Ont.His birthdate is October 5, 1836.His parents are Christopher BAKER and Margaret LOCKLAIN.
I have nothing prior to this period of time. James married Frances Jane WARD in 1856. Frances was the daughter of James WARD and Eliza SULTZER.I know that Frances was born in TADCASTER, E. Yorkshire, ENGLAND in 1837 and that she and her parents immigrated to CANADA in 1840. I believe Frances had a brother.I also believe James had siblings.
I understand from my father, a grandson of James, that we do have family members still living in CANADA. There are surely cousins in MICHIGAN ,NEW YORK, MARYLAND and DELAWARE also.
Some of the collateral surnames are: WALTERS, HALL, JACOBS, BROWN, ALLEN, LARR, SMITH, MANCHESTER, MARSH, BATESON, ADAMS, PARKS, YODER, HEDGES, TOMPKINS, FIELD, ENGLE, SCOUTEN, STINE, HAVILAND, FAULKNER, MORELL, DEPEEL, WHEELER, BRADFORD, WHITE, RANKIN, HUSON, WEIXLER, DZUR, PROCTOR, PICKETT, WEAST, MARSH, MORRISON, DRABENSTOTT, HANKS, GIROUX.
I have recently begun correspondence with two TOMPKINS cousins who have provided a living link to the Grandmother I never knew and her paternal Grandfather George L. TOMPKINS, also several of my GGrandfathers siblings of whom I had no previous knowledge. I am looking forward to the next chapter in this line.
