|Researching on the Zeunges, Stormer, Rhoades, Blough, Haberlein, Everline and Horten surnames. All these families lived in Pennsylvania, in and around Cambria, Bedford, and Somerset counties.Johnstown and Philadelphia are the only known cities for now.|
My father, Herman, was born, raised, and died in Johnstown, as did his parents, John Zeunges Jr. and Augusta Krenk. His grandfather, John Zeunges Sr., came from Germany via New York, migrated to Johnstown, and met and married his grandmother, Louisa Stormer there.
Louisa's father, Johannes Stormer, immigrated from Kerhausten, Nassau, Germany, and, except for two years that he and his wife lived in Kentucky, spent their lives in Johnstown.
My mother, Margaret Esther Rhoades, also was born and raised in Johnstown. Her parents, Thomas Stuart Rhoades, Jr. and Ada Pearl Blough, may have moved from Somerset County to Johnstown after their marriage. His parents migrated to Pennsylvania from Kentucky.
My wife, Ann Maria Haberlein, also was born and raised in Johnstown, as were her parents, William Birk Haberlein and Mary Frances Horten. Both the Haberlein and Horten families seem to have lived in Johnstown for a number of generations, although the Hortens may have moved from Bedford County at some time. The Haberleins originated in Germany, with most retaining the Haberlein name. One changed it to Everline shortly after arriving here, and his line seems to have migrated to and stayed in Maryland.
