West Virginia researchers, rejoice! Genealogy.com and Genealogical
Publishing Company have put their heads together and created a
Family Archive just brimming with West Virginia goodness and wholesomeness
just for you! The images of fourteen, count 'em, FOURTEEN books
are included on this CDe. Books that offer tons of information
in the form of family histories, military records, marriage records,
court records, and local histories, detailing about 200,000 West
Virginians from before the Revolutionary war up to the 20th century.
"Tell me, Marthe," you might be saying, "just what all is on
this fine CD that I, a dedicated West Virginia researcher, might
find useful?"

Well, I will tell you, and I'll tell you because I'm so impressed
with the resources on it. You'll find volumes that list all of
the Revolutionary War soldiers who lived (at one time or another)
in West Virginia. You'll also find a list of civilians who helped
with the Revolutionary War effort. You'll find an "index of wills,
inventories, appraisements, land grands, and surveys up to 1850."
You'll find a digest of marriage records for the very important
Berkeley County for 1781-1854. You'll find genealogies of some
of the early families in Preston County. You'll find a fascinating
look back at some of the pioneer families in Roane County. You'll
find two books that blew my socks off books that combined
family genealogies with architectural history, detailing "important
building[s] more than 100 years old at the time of the book's
original publication in 1942 and the people who either built,
occupied, or were otherwise associated with it. Nearly 100 homes,
schools, taverns, and farms in Greenbrier County are described."
But wait! There's more! There are also volumes on Capon Valley
pioneers, a history of Cabell County and the important families
who lived therein, Mason County marriage records, a collection
of miscellaneous records for Hamphsire County, and finally, family
history articles from the "The West Virginia Historical Magazine
Quarterly." Whew!
In particular, the titles of the volumes included on the CD
are:
- Cabell County Annals and Families by George Selden
Wallace
- Capon Valley: Its Pioneers and Their Descendants,
1698 to 1940 by Maud Pugh
- Early Records, Hampshire County, Virginia by
Clara McCormick Sage and Laura Sage Jones
- Genealogies of West Virginia Families
- Genealogy of Some Early Families in Grant and Pleasant
Districts, Preston County, West Virginia by Edward
T. King
- Greenbrier Pioneers and Their Homes by Ruth Woods
Dayton
- Marriage Records of Berkeley County, Virginia, 1781-1854
by Guy L. Keesecker
- Mason County, West Virginia Marriages, 1806-1915
- Pioneers and Their Homes on Upper Kanawha by
Ruth Woods Dayton
- Roane County, West Virginia Families by William
H. Bishop
- The Soldiery of West Virginia by Virgil A. Lewis
- West Virginia Estate Settlements by Ross B. Johnston
- West Virginia Revolutionary Ancestors by Anne
Waller Reddy
- West Virginians in the American Revolution by
Ross B. Johnston
The books included on this CD were so fascinating that
it made me regret not having any West Virginia families.
Nonetheless, I heartily enjoyed the collection of resources
on the CD, in particular the two volumes by Ruth Woods Dayton.
Be sure to check this title out if you've got West Virginia
families!
