Ancestry of General Douglas MacArthur
General MacArthur will long be remembered as a hero to many Americans for his part in World War II. The son of a general in the Civil War, he and his father are the only father and son to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. During his career, he was the youngest army chief of staff ever appointed, presided over the Japanese surrender on September 2, 1945, and toyed with the idea of running for president.
