Patrick Joseph3 Kennedy (Patrick4, Patrick5) was born in East Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts January 14, 1858.(66) Patrick died May 18, 1929 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, at 71 years of age. His body was interred in Malden, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He married Mary Augusta Hickey in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, November 23, 1887.(67) The wedding guests received printed invitations. The ceremony took place at 9 A.M. Mary was born in Winthrop, Suffolk County, Massachusetts December 6, 1857.(68) Mary was the daughter of James Hickey and Margaret M. Field. Mary died May 20, 1923 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, at 65 years of age.(69) Her body was interred 21 May 1923 in Malden, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was christened in East Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, January 16, 1858. Patrick was elected in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, November 3, 1885.(70) This was Patrick Joseph Kennedy's political debut. He was elected to this office four more times. Patrick was elected in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, November 3, 1891.(71) The election results were Kennedy, 3,422 votes; Elliot, 142 votes; Prince, 1,234 votes. Of the 6,450 registered voters, 74.39% (4,798 men) voted. Patrick was elected in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, November 8, 1892.(72) This is his second term. This is the only term that both he and John Francis Fitzgerald served simultaneously. Patrick Joseph Kennedy was the first Kennedy to enter into politics during an era of ward bosses that controlled the political machinery of Boston. In 1885 he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives and served five terms. In 1891 he was elected to the State Senate for his ward and served three terms. He married Mary Augusta Hickey, the daughter of a prosperous businessman.
