Private First Class, US. Army 114th Infantry regiment, 29th Infantry Division.
Buried at plot B row 36 grave 15, Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery, Romange, France with 14,246 other Americans.
From the Evening Bulletin ( Camden?)....." Of 2780 New Jersey sons who went overseas in May with the 114th, 1760 were casualties. The heaviest casualties were between 8 am and noon of October 12( the day he died) when the regiment went over the top without artillery preparation. About 800 were killed or wounded. In a single night during the campaign on the Alsace sector in September, 450 men were gassed including the entire medical detachment. The regiment took part in eight engagements from July 25 to September 23 . It was on the line in the defense of the Haute Alsace sector, but its heaviest fighting did not begin until the 29th. It was placed north of Verdun and was driving on Verdun when the armistice was signed. The North Verdun drive was from October 6 to October 20. Subsequently the regiment was engaged at Malbrock Hill,Mollville Farm, Bois d'Ormont, Grand Montagne, Etraye Ridge and Bois Beleau."
