Frederick Walter was born July 07, 1820 in Germany, and died date unknown in in a Soldiers Home. He married Emma Sybilla Rose on April 25, 1857 in By Rev Edmund deSchweinitz, daughter of Joseph Mechlin Rose and Maria Rosina Kremser.

This is to certify that Frederick Walter enlisted from Northampton County, State of Pennsylvania , April 18, 1861and was mustered into the United States Service at Harrisburg, Penna as a Private to serve 3 months in Company A, First Regiment, Penna Volunteers Infantry, Under Captain J.L. Selfridge and Colonal Samuel Yohe. The regiment was organized in Harrisburg , moved to Cockeysville on the North Central Railroad thence to York and was on duty there till May 14 1861. Guard at Northern Central Railroad near Baltimore May 14 - 25 and at Harpers Ferry road May 25 to June 23 1861. Moved to Franklintown and Chambersburg. Attached to the second brigade, second division of Patterson Army and had duty at Yeagerstown, Funkstown, and Frederick ,MD and Martinsburg, Va. He was honorably discharged July 29 1861 at Harrisburg by reason of expiration of tour of duty.

Re-entered the service July 22 1864 as Private in Battery A, Second Regiment, Penna Volunteers Heavy Artillery. Under Captain F.W.Paul and Colonel William McClure, the regiment was stationed at Fort's Ethan Allen and Marcy where they were assigned to garrison duty.. The forts were two of the defences of Washington, DC , north of the Potomac River. In May 1864 they were moved to the front. They moved to Port Royal, Va, thence marched to Cold Harbor, Va where they were attached to the third Brigade ,Second division, 18th ?, Army of the James. Participated in the battles around Cold Harbor from June 4-12 1864.
Engaged before Petersburg, Va. June 15-19,1864. Siege of operations against Petersburg and Richmond June 16 1864 until April 2 1865.. Duty in the trenches before Petersburg where they had daily engagement with the enemy.,losing nearly half of it's men before the mine explosion at Petersburg July 30 1864. Engaged in the battles of Weldon Railroad, Va, August 18-24, 1864. Participated in the engagements at Chapins Farm and New Market Heights, Va September 28-30 1864 . Engaged at Fort Harrison Va. September 29, 1964 and the Battle of Fair Oaks October 27-28 1864. The regiment was ordered to Bermuda Front , Va December 2nd 1864 and was assigned duty there until April 1865.

Engaged in the assault and capture of Petersburg, Va April 2 1865. Occupied and had duty there until May 1865 and the counties of lower Virginia sub district of the Blackwater and District of Nottaway, Va until January 1866. Discharged January 29 1866 at City Point, Va by reason of close of war.

"Dedicated to memory of Comrade F. Walter deceased, Daughter Ellen A deceased and infant son by widow and mother Mrs Emma S. Walter, February 1912"
