Catherine Butmansky was born 1702 in Seidendorf, Moravia, Germany, and died 1798. She married (1) Peter Rose, son of David Rose. She married (2) John Michael Huber. She married (3) Frederick Reidel on November 14, 1742 in Bethlehem, Pa.

Moravian Records show that she was first married to Frederick Riedel who in 1735 with other Moravian colonists went to Georgia but had already died when his wife followed him the next year. She then married Peter Rose another Moravian colonist who taught among the Creek Indians on the Savannah River,but he also died in 1740. Coming then to Bethlehem she was ordained a deaconess by Count Zinzindorf and was married again to J. M. Huber with whom she assisted the work of the church at Bethlehem and Nazareth until her husband was sent on an official journey to the West Indies. The ship foundered and he did not return. His widow was then appointed Superintendent of the widows in Bethlehem and retained her physical and mental vigor until the time of her death at the age of 95.

Another Moravian account..From Seidendorf Moravia,of Catholic family came to Herrnhutt in 1725, participated in the Lord's Supper August 13 1725, married Frederick Reidel accompanied him to Georgia 1776. After his death she married Peter rose. She lived with him for some time among the Creek Indians teaching Indian children. In November 1739 accompanied her husband to Germantown, Pa . After the death of her second husband on March12, 1740 she moved to Bethlehem, Pa where in 1742 married John Michael Huber. She died at Bethlehem in 1798 in the 96 year of her age.. Her third husband John Huber perished at sea in a hurricane while on his way to St. Thomas. West Indies as a missionary in 1747. She was the first Moravian Sister to engage in Missionary work. She was present at the Organization of Herrnhutt in 1727 and in 1742 was among the 80 original people who entered into the first regular organization of Bethlehem, Pa. Her daughter Mary Magdeline Rose who in 1763 became the wife of Reverend Paul Bader was the first Moravian Child born in America. She was one of the original occupants of the Widows House at Bethlehem and served for many years as a Deaconess. When the 50th Anniversary of Bethlehem was celebrated she was one of the 8 of the original 80 persons yet living and the only one who participated in the festivities. There is an oil painting of her in the archives of the Central Moravian Church. Her third husband John Michael Huber was from Tyrol and was a member of the colony called by the early Moravian writers and historians " The First Sea Congregation" which embarked on the Bark " Catherine", Thomas Gladman, Commander, at London on March 15 1742 arriving At Philadelphia June 7th 1742
