Have done limited research re; the Abernathy Clan. As of this writing 18 May 2010, we believe our line extends back to Robert Abernathy I and possibly to George De Berrie Abernethy (unsubstantiated). Most of my immediate family on my father's side came from Cape Girardeau, MO. There are possible holes in the tracking and need to be resolved. My Father was born from the 3rd marriage of Alonzo L. Abernathy & Lucinda Patrick. Alonzo's father was Joab Abernathy and was the 5th child of 7 of that marriage. Joab's father was Joseph Abernathy married to Glaphara Abernathy (a marriage between Abernathy's) which produced 12 children. Joab was the 7th child of that marriage. Apparently, the line can be fairly well traced back to Robert I, the first Abernathy to arrive in America. That would be Joseph-Robert V-Robert IV-Robert III-Robert II & finally to Robert I. All of this data appears to exist with some holes as indicated above. Once substantiated as factual, I will post accordingly.
