Gordon E. Abshire was born and raised in Idaho. He is a graduate of Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR, with post-graduate studies at New York University and Columbia University Teachers' College.
Northwest composer Donald M. Skirvin used several of Gordon’s recent poems as his text. The Seattle Choral Company, the Esoterics, the Bainbridge Chorale and the UW Summer Chorale have performed these choral compositions. A collection of Gordon’s earlier works, “A Comfort of My Own Finding” was published privately in 1971.
Gordon recently retired from a career in data processing. Throughout his career Gordon was a recognized subject matter expert in information management processes, methods and tools and was particularly interested in the human and social implications of automation influenced by his earlier work in psychology and linguistics.
