Ihave tried to backtrack the origins of the Adian family. The surname began with my grandfather, Frank Adian, his brother John and sister Mary Ann. These three siblings changed their surname spelling from Etienne to Adian some time after their father, Jean Joseph Etienne. Jean Joseph Etienne came to America with his father Jean Baptist Adian and family from Florenville, Belgium. Jean Baptist was born in Belgium in 1812 and died in Leopold, Indiana in 1844. His father was Jean Joseph Etienne, 1789, son of Jean Baptist Etienne, 1763, son of Raimond Etienne, 1738, son of Hugo Etiernne, 1715, son fo Guillaume Etienne and Jeanna Laureht.
My grandfather Frank Alexander Adian married Gertrude Abernathy. I have tracked the Abernathys back to Scotland. They had eight children. Ruben Stanley, Joseph Coleman, John Thomas, Charles Maloy, Inez, Mary Ruth, Irene and Loree.
My father, Joseph Coleman Adian married Bessie Stoup. I have very little information about my mothers family. Her father was Edward Darwin Stoup and her mother was Nova Lou Scoggins.
