This Alkema Family Tree is the result of the legwork of a first cousin who started in the 1930's to find family information from church- and municipal records in Friesland, The Netherlands.
The information was augmented by information received from a distant cousin in The Netherlands who at one point engaged a professional genealogist to trace the family back to the early 1400's. This specialist also discovered the early family name by follow-ing a link that established that the name at one point was in danger of disappearing.
A FEMALE insisted that HER maidenname, Alkema,be used for her offspring.{Our first women's libber? She married in 1629!}
Further assistance came from a friend of my brother who traced the records of our Mother's ancestry and dug up the fact that this traced back to a town in South Holland called....Alkemade.
It is a fascinating hobby and the FTM program is a fabulous help.
