The Pierce Brown, Jr. Family of Saluda, SC

Updated January 28, 2003

About Our Family Research

I am not sure where the family originated, but we have a family reunion the first Saturday in August of every year in/around Saluda, SC. This started as the Williams/Abney reunion, but Momma says it started with the Lotts and Williams. We always had homemade HASH at the family reunions.
Family Reunion Information:

The founders of this family reunion are not clear how it got started, but some people say that it was started because some Lotts and Williams planned to get together the first Saturday in August to celebrate family. During the beginning there were a lot of Lotts and Williams but, as the years progressed they all dropped out except for the ones that married into the Abney family. It is estimated that this Family Reunion has been in existence for at least 80 years. This is as far back as my mother can remember, when she started attending Mr. John Lott made HASH for a few years, then Uncle Joe, (Joseph Henley), took over and when he felt he was getting too old, he taught Pierce Brown, Jr how to make hash. The places she remembers attending the Family Reunion were:
1. On Highway 378 in Mr. Huner Ridge's pasture, 4-miles from Saluda.
2. Mack Lester's placte twice, 3-miles from Saluda.
3. Uncle Joe's house in Corley, 7-miles from Saluda.
4. Uncle Joe's house up Newberry highway.
5. Cousin Lizzie Mae's Simpkins house on 178, 4-miles from Saluda on Harmon's place one year.
6. There were too many knats in Batesburg, so it was moved to my parents house on 178, 12-miles from Saluda.
7. Bethlehem Baptist Church for two years, Saluda.
8. Amick's pond for one year.
9. Rolston Park in Saluda for two years.
10. Then to Bakers Creek Park in McCormick.
