My name is Susan Ameling and I am attempting to do a genealogy of my grandfather and his family. My grandfather was born on March 8, 1920, I believe in Hopkins County, Texas. His parents were Oscar and Gertrude(Phillips)Jones. He had siblings, Grady, Buford and Lena and I belive one other brother. He married Roberta Blanch Chapman in May 1938 ( I believe). He has two (2)
daughters, Charlotte (my mother) and Nesica. My grandfather was
sheriff of Hopkins County, Sulphur Springs,Texas for 23 years, up until his death, December 1976. He was a well known lawman for many,many years, well liked and well loved. He was also named as an outstanding Texan, in a book published a few years ago,"Outstanding Texans". My grandmother passed away in October of 1999. If anyone has any information regarding the fine upstanding history of my grandfather, I would appreciate any input you have.
