Bayles, Upchurch and Related Families of Harnett County, NC Updated February 9, 2002
About Our Family Research
Harnett County North Carolina was formed in 1855 from Cumberland County. My ancestors were there long before this took place.
Solomon Bales (Bayles) bought his land in 1816, married and raised his children. Many of his descendants can still be found in Coats and the surrounding communities. However, where he was born is still a mystery.
The Upchurch’s originated in England came to North Carolina in the 1700’s. Benjamin Upchurch, thought to be a descendant of Michael Upchurch, came to Harnett from Franklin County. In 1850 he married Arabella Medlin and they began their family in Buies Creek.
Stewart, Johnson, Mitchell, Robinson, Denning, Jordan, Barnes and Jernigan are just some of the family names intertwined with the Bayles and Upchurch to make up my family tree.
