Before World War Two, northeastern Slovakian towns like Stropkov, Humenne, Michalovce, and Bardejov teemed with AMSELS. After the War, however, few remained. From my genealogical research, I realized that "there but the Grace of God, go I." I too could have been a Holocaust victim, had my grandfather not immigrated to America at the turn of the century. Though initially I knew little about our cousins in the Old Country, I was determined to give them names and faces, to build an AMSEL Family Tree. Through my twenty-odd years of research, I have been able to trace both those who stayed in Slovakia and those who sought a new life in new lands, like Australia, Canada, Venezuela, and France, as well as America. Relying on primary sources such as ships' manifests and vital records, as well as family lore, I have, in many cases, been able to "connect the dots," to find the elusive threads that bind the different branches. The AMSEL Tree now stands tall--and its branches still grow. Please send me your updates, your births, marriages, and deaths. Please send me additional AMSEL information.
