The Anderson Family Reunions have in the past been very numerous and in many locations. In Kansas at Ozawkie which is considered by many as the "Home" of the Anderson's during the "fifties" reunions with more than 100 in attendance were commonplace. Presently Anderson's gather with their cousins the Michael's following the Ozawkie High School Reunion on the first weekend of June of each year. I have attended Anderson reunions in South East Nebraska in the towns of Diller, Odell, and Steele City. In Northern California on the Sunday afternoon nearest June 18th, a reunion is held currently in the Durham Park at Durham, California. Durham is located just south of Chico, California. There has been much research done on the Anderson line and I am aware of many of my Anderson relatives but on my mothers side of the family I am needing to obtain much information. The Anderson Family came to the area near the Kansas Nebraska border and settled originally in that area. George Henry Anderson and family migrated south into Kansas around prior to 1886 and his brother Thomas Anderson remained in Steele City, Nebraska. Decendents of Thomas Anderson still live in that portion of Nebraska, but as with the decendents of George Anderson many have moved to all areas of the states. Some found their way to California in the early 1900's and others during the depression years of the 30's. This program does not allow recording of multiple marriages but in the history of the Anderson forefathers, many had more than one wife and therefore there are children and spouses not recorded. My Father, Arthur Monroe Anderson Sr. had three wives, I am from his second family. There were eight in the first family, four in the second and three more in the third. My mother remarried and had two more children giving me 17 brothers and sisters. I lived from the 7th grade thru most of high school with my Father and his third wife and children. The third wife had four children from previous marriages and those "step-brothers and sisters" were family, thereby making my family of brothers and sisters reach a total of 21! This was not polygamy but in some cases the loss of the wife due to the hard times and death and in others divorce. Large families were not uncommon in the Anderson lineElijah Anderson Jr had twelve children with two wives between 1839 and 1861. The first three in Ohio, then one in Iowa, then the rest in Tenessee. Elijah Anderson Sr was born in Kent County, Delaware On my mothers side, are the Wingfields and Carrolls. Alabama Carroll is the daughter of Richmond Carroll and Sarah Driver. They come from "Alabama" her namesake and via Mississippi. Drury Wingfield, Alabama's, husband left his wife in Texas and returned to Mississippi to enlist in the C.S.A. army to serve in the Civil War. He was mustered out as a Sgt and returned to Texas after the war where he is buried.
