My family tree information was initiated to receive a membership with the Metis Nation of Alberta in conjunction with the funding and programs. Subsequently the "Powley" harvesting rights case at the Federal court ruling enabled metis hunting, fishing, trapping rights. See albertametis.org for further details. My family originates from the Red River Settlement area and maintained a strong Metis Identity. Fiddle music, dance, traditions were part of and continue to live in the hearts of many Metis. My grandparents lived in Egg Lake near St. Albert then moved to "Big Prairie" near High Prairie AB, Canada. They are buried in the St. Albert Catholic cemetary. My mother's side, the andersons are also of Metis origin. My grandfather worked with the Hudsons Bay Company and moved to the Grouard, AB area in mid 1900's. Later moving to Gift Lake Metis Settlement. My grandmother, now 95 years old is still living in the area.
