The Herkes Connection in The Anderson Family Tree
Updated May 29, 2001
| About Our Family Research |
|
Our mothers maiden name is Herkes. Her ancestors can be traced back to Papa Westray an island off the north coast of Scotland. There is some evidence to suggest that the herkes family may have scandinavan connections but our research stops in Papa Westray due to insufficient information/unclear written material/or change of name spelling. The Herkes decendants came south eventualy settling in the Midlothian and Eastlothian areas and appeared to have in the main been employed in the farming industry. My grandfather James HERKES (dob-6/11/1866)and his brother Alexander Herkes(dob?)were part of the extended Anderson family living in the family home at Fountainhall Pencaitland EastLothian where I grew up.My parents Bob and Bella Anderson had six children all of whom survive except one. My great grandparents had as far as can be established to date eight sons and it is the sixth son Andrew(dob-10/7/1871)whom i want to trace. Andrew emigrated to Canada in the 1920s/1930s and he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. I have so far been unable to obtain any information about his life in the police, his surviving family or their current whereabouts.I know that he lived/or served in the Hamilton or Toronto cities up until the 1950s but nothing more.
