Anders Frederick Anderson (son of Andreas (Anders) Jonsson and Sophia Mathilda Carlsdotter) was born 10 Dec 1882 in Glomminge, Oland, Sweden, and died 09 Jan 1945 in Kearney (Buffalo county), Nebraska. He married (1) Mary Esther Berst on 25 Jun 1911 in St. Paul (Howard county), Nebraska, daughter of Frank Berst and Margaret Battendorf.  Includes NotesNotes for Anders Frederick Anderson:
Anders Frederick "Fred" Anderson lived in Glomminge on the island of Oland, Sweden until he was 14 years old. His mother's brother, John Johnson, sent money for his passage to America and he arrived in the port of New York around 1 July 1897 aboard a vessel of the Cunnard Line. Wearing a tag around his neck showing his destination, he traveled by train to St. Paul, Nebraska. The bridge north of St. Paul was out due to flooding so they crossed the Loup River by boat then traveled to Cushing where he made his home with his Uncle John and his grandmother, Sophia Johnson. In return for his passage he was to work for John.

It is uncertain how long he was required to work for John. He was living there when the Federal Census was taken in 1900. In July 1903 when the school census for District 22 was taken, he was shown living with John in the southwest part of Section 32 Township 16 Range 9, (Carl Anderson called this the Ras Larson Place).

Swedish records show Fred's name as Andreas Fredrik Andersson. In 1910 on records in the Howard County Courthouse, Fred signed his name as "Andreas Frederick Anderson". By 1915 he was using Anders which is probably the Americanized form of Andreas.

According to Clayton Anderson, his dad had farmed at Cotesfield before buying the livery barn in Wolbach. Carl Anderson related a story of Fred's move to North Loup in the mud. Because there is no record of Fred's paying taxes in Howard County before 1910 he probly rented the farmland. On 26 October 1909 Fred paid $4,000. to Frank J. Seabury for Lots 20, 21, 22 and 23 in Block 10 in the original town of Wolbach, Nebraska, this was the livery barn. The deed was recorded 15 November 1909. The newspaper accounts indicated that Fred was from Cotesfield and that the livery barn was called "ANDERSON BROTHERS". Fred's brother, Carl, who was a blacksmith was living in Wolbach at that time so it is assumed that they were in partnership. On 15 April 1910 Fred sold his property in Wolbach to E. F. Jones for $2,500.

On 21 March 1910 Fred bought 160 acres of prairie land in Section 9 Township 15 Range 9 in Howard County near Cushing. He paid $10,000. ($4,000. plus a $6,000. Mortgage to Mutual Benefits Life Insurance Co.) to his grandmother, Sofia Johnson. Sofia inherited the land from her son, John, who died in February 1910. John had paid $9,000. to Gould Land and Cattle Co., in July 1909.

By the time he married Mary Berst in June 1911 he had built the house and most likely other necessary farm buildings. They were married in St. Paul by C. E. Hovorka, a Catholic Priest. Witnesses were Mary's brother and sister, Frank Berst of Cushing and Marguerite Berst of St. Paul.

All of Fred's and Mary's children were born in the house Fred had built. It is now owned by Fred's grandson, Ernest Anderson Jr.

Fred filed his declaration of intention to become a naturalized citizen in Sistrict Court at St. Paul, Nebraska on 9 April 1921. At that time he was 38 years old and was a farmer,he was of fair complexion, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighted 145 pounds, had black hair and light brown eyes. He became a naturalized citizen 17 September 1923. His witnesses or sponsors were John H. Welsh and Claude Moore, both of Cushing Nebraska.

On 19 August 1921, Fred bought the south half of the northeast quarter of Section 8 Township 15 Range 9 that lies east of the county road running south from Cushing. He paid Robert M. Saling $6,750.. Fred took possession 1 March 1922.

Mary died in June 1926, following childbirth and the loss of a second infant son. Fred kept his family together in those years while all six were under the age of 15. His family shares fond memories of their closeness and hard work. Fred worked hard to provide his children with a good family life.

Fred's children attended school at Cushing. All but Clayton graduated from the high school there. Several also attended College, Business school, secretarial school and nursing school.

Fred and Hulda moved to Cushing when he retired in January 1943. Fred was taken to the hospital in Kearney, Nebraska on 25 September where he died on 9 January 1945. His death certificate lists cancer of the colon and lungs as cause of death.

On 13 February 1936 (filed 20 March 1936) Fred bought the northeast quarter of the northeast quarter of Section 8 Township 15 Range 9. He paid $2300 to Ole Grothan Estate.

Fred was a Lutheran all his life, having joined the church in Sweden. His children attended the Lutheran Church in Cushing. Hulda was also Lutheran Mary was Catholic.

On 15 May 1931 (recorded 7 August, 1931) Fred bought the northwest quarter of the northeast quarter of Section 8 Township 15 Range 9. He paid $5,075. to Chris Marthinussen and his wife Lena.

August 18, 1931 Fred married Hulda Jensen at her parent's home in Wolbach, Nebraska. More information concerning Hulda is in Hulda's notes record.
